Position: Executive Director, Americas Benefits Lead
Location: Lawrenceville, NJ
Position Summary
The Americas Benefits Lead will reside in our Lawrenceville, NJ office and report to the VP, Global Benefits & Wellbeing Strategy COE. As a senior member of the Total Rewards function, he/she will serve as a member of the Total Rewards Leadership Team. Reporting to this role will be the Americas Health & Welfare Benefits Partner, Americas Retirement & Global Financial Wellbeing Partner, and Global Work life Strategy Partner.
The Americas Benefits Lead will lead the team accountable for developing the strategy and innovative design for our:
Americas health & welfare programs (health insurance, disability, voluntary programs, personal liability, legal services, identity theft protection, child and elder care and family planning)
Americas retirement programs (qualified and non-qualified, defined benefit and defined contribution)
Global Financial Wellbeing programs (financial engagement, counseling, and programming)
Global Work life programs (global, local, and state leave programs including FMLA, vacation and paid time off, sabbaticals, volunteer days, family planning and care)
This position is responsible for the competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of the America’s H&W, Retirement benefit plans, and Work Life programs and their adequacy with respect to attraction and retention while aligning with company’s business strategy.
This individual should possess a high-level of integrity and intellectual curiosity, and be motivated to increase the visibility, engagement and return on our benefits portfolio. He/she will work with the VP, Global Benefits & Wellbeing Strategy COE, other Total Rewards leaders and across the HR function to continue to increase the role our Total Rewards programs play in supporting BMS’s culture and our employee value proposition.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Americas benefits, global Financial Wellbeing and work life program teams, across multiple sites and offices, to foster seamless design and implementation of critical Total Rewards programs.
Support the SVP, Total Rewards in the design of the Total Rewards organization and resource deployment, bringing external organization design and internally driven design concepts for discussion and decisions.
Foster career design and talent development across the Total Rewards, People Services, and broader HR Function
Partner closely with People Services leads on the design, deployment, automation, and administration of our Total Rewards Programs
Raise opportunities for the continued modernization and data/AI driven evolution of Total Rewards design and administration.
Partner with the Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A), Corporate Affairs and Communications and Workforce Experience teams to increase Total Rewards data, employee insights, analytics, and engagement approaches to fully capture program ROI.
Partner with Finance, Legal, Actuaries, Shared Services, and HRIT to ensure cross-functional support of Total Rewards programs.
Stay alert and ahead of emerging government and IRS regulations, practices, policies, evaluating the appropriate strategies and suggesting changes in policies and programs, as necessary.
Drive succession planning, diversity aspirational goal achievement and talent retention efforts pipelining, as necessary, for external talent. Takes a leadership role in creating a respectful & inclusive work environment while role-modeling the BMS Behaviors and fostering geographical and cultural diversity.
Play a critical role in any future M&A activity as BMS continues to augment its portfolio through strategic acquisition investments and streamline through divestitures.
Qualifications and experience
Degree/Certification/Licensure:
College/University degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experience – Responsibility and minimum number of years
15+ years of Total Rewards experience, with consulting firm experience preferred but not required.
Firm foundation in Total Rewards best practices and organization design and sound business and financial acumen and judgment
Strong leadership, sophistication, and maturity to lead a strategic global function and team.
Capable of providing thought leadership, vision and innovation and ensuring the link between company and functional strategy, people strategy and delivering results.
Strong experience with corporate governance, audit, and compliance (HIPAA, ERISA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, IRC, etc.)
Competencies – Knowledge, Skills Abilities
Extensive experience in the design of Total Rewards programs, including health & welfare and retirement programs.
Significant presentation experience at C-Suite level (CHRO and CFO); experience presenting at Board-level preferred.
Experience leading global teams of Total Rewards subject matter experts.
Strong knowledge of benefits/rewards financial accounting, tax, and governance Acumen in statistics, including market prevalence data, user experience data and program metrics.
Proven ability to work across multiple countries and cultures in a global environment.
Strong experience in working effectively within a matrixed environment and building alignment in a cross functional and team environment.
Broad experience in using external and internal professional networks in strategic activities to achieve better talent outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to proactively anticipate and manage business issues and taking initiative to drive necessary change.
